The Object Kept in a Drawer Nobody Opens

Every household seems to have at least one drawer that functions less as storage and more as a quiet resting place for objects nobody quite knows what to do with. Kept out of sight but never discarded, these objects accumulate undisturbed for years at a time without anyone giving them much thought.
Opening such a drawer occasionally, usually during a move or a clear-out prompted by necessity, can feel like a small archaeological dig through the family's own history. Each object requires a moment of consideration before being returned, unchanged, to its place, the decision to keep it made again without much real deliberation.
These drawers are, in their own unglamorous way, a genuine part of a family's archive worth taking seriously eventually. They hold onto exactly the objects too minor to display and too significant to throw away, suspended indefinitely in a kind of domestic limbo nobody quite resolves.
